My Pinterest Addiction

Happy Tuesday ya'll.

I sit here writing this blog post on crappy Starbucks wifi because I'm way too cool to write this post at my house.   I must admit that Starbucks is one of my great loves.  Not really so much for the drinks though.  I don't have a favorite, mainly just drinking coffee or black tea, but I truly enjoy the atmosphere.  I feel so hip when I walk in there. The soothing music and the chill posters of coffee on the wall make for a relaxing break in a hectic day.

Anyway, I didn't write this blog post to talk about Starbucks, although that sounds like a wonderful topic for another time.  I am writing this blog post to discuss Pinterest.  You know, that site that is like a virtual craft board? How do you women feel about it?  For me it's a definite love/hate relationship.
I'm a sucker for the fashion-my favorite category on the site.  I take copious notes from the beautiful outfits and hairstyles they have on there.
I'm a sucker for the humorous memes.  Sometimes they are pretty funny and manage to put a smile on my face.  Whatever works.

Alright but I also have a definite hate relationship with it. More hate than love, I have recently discovered.
Most of the time the quotes just stress me out.  Just today I was browsing through the plentiful quote section and came across this quote for the 500th time: "What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it."  That is just one example.  Here's some others that irritate me:
"Don't count the days, make the days count."
"In the end we only regret the chances we didn't take."
I know what you're all thinking.  These quotes are amazing! And totally true.
Yes I absolutely agree, but for some reason they still freak me out.  I know they're supposed to calm me down, but most of the time they just give me a panic attack.  I'm always sitting on my bed, being lazy and reading quotes like "Your life may end tomorrow. Make it count." And then I just think holy crap I just wasted a day being lazy... does that make me a bad person?
Ok I would also like to address those pictures of those girls with perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect makeup, and a perfect background behind them- you know what I'm talking about.  I realized that those pictures were becoming kind of toxic for my own well being.  My life will never look like that, and I will never look like that. I might do that hairstyle or wear that shirt but I'm never gonna look just like her.  I will never have that type of body, but that's perfectly ok.  I can also guarantee that the boy I will be kissing will NOT happen under a sunset, on the beach, at the moment right before the sun fully sets like Mr. and Mrs. Darcy's kiss in Pride and Prejudice (actually I think that was the sunrise but you get the point if you've seen the movie).

I'm considering deleting my Pinterest, or only going on there to look at fashion inspiration (hey they've got good stuff what can I say).  Or rather, maybe I just need to take a step back and embrace the imperfections in my life.  No, I don't have perfect skin.  I don't have a boyfriend who I can kiss on the beach during the sunset.  I don't have perfectly long beach hair.  I am not a surfer, as much as I have dreamed of being one.

No indeed. Instead, I am a short girl with medium length blonde hair.  I grew up a swimmer in a small mountain town.  I have far from perfect skin.  I have things I don't like about my body.  I am self-conscious about my smile, and I don't have that sweet six pack the girls on Pinterest do.
But that's absolutely fine.  I know I'm sounding like an insane feminist on this post, and believe me I'm generally the farthest from it, but I am really trying to learn how to love myself.  Finally I am somewhat liking what I see in the mirror, and realizing that my life doesn't need perfect skin, perfect outfits, and a perfect body to be fabulous.  As of now, I'm just trying to focus on creating an almost perfect "inside" of myself.  What's that Clueless quote?  She says she will "makeover her soul." I've always loved that.   I may love beautiful clothes and makeup just as much as the next girl, but I think it truly is what kind of attitude and "vibe" you convey to others that make your life worthwhile.

Also, if you take some days to just sit around, do nothing, watch Netflix and eat junk food- don't worry about it.   I think a few lazy days are just as good for the soul as a day full of productive, soul enriching experiences.  Your body needs both.

What do you think of Pinterest?

Sincerely,
Anne Elliot
